Posted on Facebook page from the Saint Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church of Ottawa Parish Council:
The purchase of the building located at 5065 Thunder Road was completed on August 29th. The renovations of the building that will be used as a “Hay Doun” (Church and Community Centre), will begin very soon, starting with the most basic needs of the building.
In the meantime, we know that the members of the Ottawa Armenian community are very eager to see the new building. To allow as many people to visit, we will be hosting an “Open House” for the members of the Ottawa Armenian community to see the building as it stands now, before the renovations begin, on Sunday, September 22nd 2019, starting at noon. The “Open House” will also include a barbeque picnic offered by the Parish Council of Saint Mesrob Armenian Church (a donor has generously offered to pay for the expenses of this event’s barbeque).
We are very happy that the Ottawa Armenian community finally has a building of its own, where we can proudly fly the “yerakuyn” in Ottawa. In parallel to the “Open House”, we will be organizing a “Flag-raising ceremony” at the new building, hoisting the flags of Canada and Armenia, in commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the independence of Armenia, and as an affirmation of the change of ownership of the site. The “Flag-raising ceremony” will begin at noon next Sunday.
We hope to see you in large numbers at this important first event at the site of Ottawa’s new “Hay Doun”.
