La Ville offrira du financement pour l'achat d'équipement pour le nouveau centre communautaire

Rob Jellett, local councillor for Cumberland Ward confirmed today that the City of Ottawa will provide $10 000 to assist with the purchase of a variety of equipment for the new centre.  The funds comes from the cash in lieu of parkland fund.  According to Rob, "Every time a developer builds a house they have to either put 5% of the value of the land into the fund or into parkland.  If there is already enough land used as parks in the area in which they build, the City requires the cash payment instead.  Some of it goes into regular city wide funding, but some gets to stay for use in parks in Cumberland Ward."  Rob meet a City of Ottawa rep in parks and recreation and they agreed that $10,00 would be used for the centre as the project was short of money in the original budget for equipment.    The Carlsbad Springs Community Association has also solicited other potential sponsors.  More details to come regarding this initiative.  The local community association has also authorized $6000 during the last AGM in February 2010 to assist with the purchase of equipment.  An application to the Trillium Foundation is also in the works and will be submitted before the November deadline.   At this time an estimate of approx. $25 000 to $30 000 of new equipment for the centre has been identified as a priority: tables, chairs, storage system for chairs / table,  scoreboard for the gym, audio-visual equipment for the multi-purpose room and the lobby/office area and some sports equipment.  The centre will open in early 2011.
